Do new windows need special maintenance?

Not much. Vinyl and fiberglass windows never need painting and clean up with mild soap and water, and tilt-in sashes make the outside glass easy to reach. Wood and wood-clad windows need a little more care to protect the finish. A quick seasonal check of the seals and weatherstripping keeps any window performing for the long haul.
